An important aspect to be considered during planning of concreting works is the selection of appropriate near (internal) means of transport at the construction site. This concerns the section between the concrete unloading station (in most cases - a mixer truck) to the point of placement. This is a factor decisive with respect to time, quality and concreting costs. It depends on many parameters such as the size of the created component, structural solutions, technical and organisational solutions, the location and size of the construction site as well as the available equipment.
A standard solution used during concreting works is the use of concrete pumps. However, in case of smaller constructional parts requiring less concrete mix, such as pillars, stairwells, elevator shafts, small ceiling slabs, ties, suspended beam ceilings, the use of a pump is not economical and complicated, or even impossible, if the mix needs to be transported to a high level. An alternative solution is the use of concrete containers for transport of the mix with the use of an appropriate hoisting device.
Mode of use
Transport using a container entails loading the mix at the point of delivery, i. e. direct from the concrete mixer truck, and moving it vertically and horizontally, in most cases using a tower crane, to the destination point. The container is suspended from a hook using a chain sling. The mix is provided using the opening in the underside - a manually opened and closed chute. The method and the height, from which the concrete mix may be laid out, is dependent on the construction technology. The concrete mix container should be equipped with a sleeve allowing concreting of high walls and pillars. It also allows control of placement of the mix within formwork, preventing it from spilling caused by wind.
Choosing a concrete container
The structure, shape and capacity of a concrete container depends on the type of works executed. Betomax offers concrete containers with capacities from 0,75 m3 to 2 m3. Containers with other characteristics available upon request.
Type A - basic container type with central output, recommended if one has access to the concrete-releasing mechanism during concreting (i. e. the concreting takes place from a small height).
Type A/L - container with central output, recommended if the concreting of parts takes place from a height of up to four metres. Additionally equipped with a chain allowing release of the concrete from ground level.
Type B - container with central output, may be used in case of concreting at higher elevations, at spots where there is no access to the release mechanism, or if the concreting process requires control. Additionally equipped with work platform and counterweight in the form of a rubble container.
Type C - side-output container used for concreting high pillars and walls, if there arises the necessity of introducing the mix from the side of the formwork. During repair works, the mix may be delivered via a chute placed in a wall opening, during concreting of foundations, ceiling slabs, etc. Release of the mix may take place directly from container level, i. e. concreting of slabs, ceilings, and in case of concreting at a higher level - from scaffolding.
The Betomax concrete containers are characterised by great robustness and high quality. They are manufactured of certified steel, from cold-rolled sheet steel and closed profiles, securing great rigidity and resistance, while at the same time maintaining a low own weight. The chute opening mechanism is made out of steel with increased wear resistance - its optimum parameters guarantee free release of the container chute. The entire structure is protected by orange alkyd paint, guaranteeing long life in natural conditions and excellent visibility at the construction site. The shackles and slings used for the containers are approved and certified. Each container is equipped with a nameplate and is covered by a 12-month warranty. Along with each container, a set of documents is delivered: the conformity certificate, the CE certificate for the chain sling, as well as functional and technical documentation, containing details as to the container use.
